Abatement
Abatement of asbestos, vermiculite and other hazardous materials
We remove asbestos, vermiculite and other hazardous materials from commercial and industrial buildings in Calgary. Our crews hold Alberta asbestos tickets and we work to the Alberta OHS Code and Alberta Environment disposal requirements on every job, moderate risk or high risk.
Send us the hazardous-material report, drawings or a photo. We respond to site-visit and quote inquiries within 24 hours.

What is abatement?
Abatement means identifying the hazardous material, sealing off the area so it can’t spread, removing the material under controlled conditions and disposing of it at an approved facility. In Alberta the requirements change with the risk classification of the work, so the survey or report drives the method, not the other way around.
Abatement of asbestos
Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral fibre that was commonly used in building materials because of its strength, durability and fire resistance. Prolonged exposure to asbestos fibres can cause serious health problems, including lung cancer, mesothelioma and asbestosis.
Our asbestos abatement work involves:
- Surveying the building to identify asbestos-containing materials (ACMs). Commonly:
- Pipe and attic insulation
- Asbestos-cement products: roofing shingles, siding and pipe
- Vinyl floor tile and sheet flooring
- Textured paint and coatings
- Ceiling tile
- Thermal insulation on boilers and furnaces
- Electrical insulation
- Fireproofing
- Gaskets and seals
- Writing the abatement plan for the site: containment, removal sequence and disposal
- Removing the material under controls that keep fibre out of the air
- Meeting Alberta OHS and Alberta Environment requirements for the risk level of the work
Abatement of vermiculite
Vermiculite is a naturally occurring mineral often used as insulation in attics and walls. Vermiculite insulation may contain asbestos fibres, creating a health risk if it is disturbed or damaged.
Our vermiculite work involves:
- Testing vermiculite insulation for asbestos before anything is disturbed
- Removing and disposing of contaminated insulation under full containment
- Keeping fibre out of the rest of the building while the work is underway
Abatement of other hazardous materials
We also handle lead paint, mould, mercury, PCBs and mastic. Mastic shows up most often as adhesive under floor tile, ceiling tile, wall panel, insulation and ductwork:
- Floor tile adhesive
- Ceiling tile adhesive
- Wall panel adhesive
- Insulation adhesive
- Ductwork adhesive
On every hazardous-material scope we:
- Confirm what’s there, from the existing report or by testing
- Write the removal plan for that material and that site
- Remove it under the controls the risk level requires
- Document disposal and meet Alberta OHS and Alberta Environment requirements
